Mountain Strong Promotes Support After Helene

Social media posts from Mountain Strong provided access to mental health resources after Hurricane Helene

One of the many ways Mountain Projects and Mountain Strong lent a hand after Hurricane Helene caused massive destruction in Western North Carolina was by helping residents find all sorts of resources.

Mountain Strong used Mountain Projects’ strong social media presence to guide readers to SAMHSA’s Disaster Helpline website, along with help sites operated by the NC Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with Alliance Health and “Somethings”, a mental health platform specific to teens.

As explained in NCDHHS’s announcement, “Mental health challenges often emerge 3-6 months after a natural disaster, as the immediate crisis subsides … as many mental health providers mobilize to support North Carolina communities, Somethings aims to ensure that teenagers are not left behind.”
