Marijuana
94 percent of Western North Carolina youth do not use marijuana.
The marijuana grown or artificially produced today is much different from marijuana of the past. THC, the substance in marijuana that produces a “high,” is found in much higher concentrations in modern marijuana products, including edibles. High-potency THC can pose serious health risks, especially to youth, such as psychosis or addiction (CDC). Messages about marijuana, hemp, and CBD can be confusing. Even legally available products may impact youth differently than adults.
Our programs to prevent and reduce youth marijuana use include:
- Ad campaigns aimed at adult caregivers, including parents and guardians
- Presentations for groups of parents, educators, and others interested in understanding this topic and how to address it with youth
