Mountain Strong WNC is a department of Mountain Projects, Inc. Community Action Agency. We provide prevention services for Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties in North Carolina. Our mission is to build resilience and prevent substance misuse across the far western part of the state.
What We Do
We offer programs based on the needs of each community we serve. Among the services we offer:
- Support for youth prevention education in schools
- Virtual 12-hour Prime for Life drug and alcohol prevention class
- Ad campaigns aimed at parents and teens to prevent substance misuse during adolescence and beyond
- Community-based training on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma and resilience
- Training to prevent opioid overdose deaths
- Distribution of locks and lock boxes for safe storage of prescription meds and alcohol in the home
How We Are Funded
Most of our services are provided at no direct cost to the communities we serve, thanks to federal, state, and local funding. Currently, Prime for Life is our only fee-for-service program.
Agencies and organizations that support us include: the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Use Services, with funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA); and Bryson City ABC Board.
