Mountain Strong Partners With ABC Stores
Underage drinking can increase the risk for health issues, including preventable injuries (SAMHSA). Mountain Projects encourages adults who have alcohol in their homes to monitor and safely store it as one step to help prevent underage drinking.
Thanks to partnerships between Mountain Projects and local ABC stores (two in Haywood County and one in Swain County), parents, grandparents, and other adults were able to obtain locks for securely storing alcohol in their homes throughout much of 2024, free of charge. Self-serve displays at all three stores allowed patrons to take one or more locks of their choice, including bottle locks and fridge or cabinet locks of varying types.
Store managers at all three stores reported an enthusiastic response from the community. Mountain Projects hopes to continue and grow this partnership in 2025, based on its success. Follow the Mountain Projects Facebook page to receive updates about lock availability at a store near you.
